DENTAL NEWS: Woman practiced dentistry out of garage

A woman is accused of working as a dentist without a license from her garage in Royal Palm Beach.

The investigation began last month after the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office received a tip about a possible unlicensed dentist.

The tipster told investigators a friend referred them to a dentist who "wasn't expensive" to take care of a dental issue. According to the arrest report, the tipster said the dentist named "Alejandra" offered a deep cleaning for $70. The tipster went to the address which turned out to be a home in the Madison Green neighborhood inside the gated Wyndham subdivision. The tipster ultimately canceled the appointment.

Investigators identified the suspect as 45-year-old Alexandra Gallego who, according to state records, did not have a valid dental or medical license in Florida. Deputies, according to the arrest report, searched her trash and found dental ledgers, dental supplies, and receipts for the purchases of dental equipment and supplies, and some supplies with possible blood residue. Detectives also identified a number of patients going in and out of the home.

The sheriff's office executed a search warrant on Thursday. Deputies searched the garage which had been converted into a dental office.

Gallego is free on bond. She's charged with practicing dental hygiene without an active license and non licensed person in control of dental equipment.
