PDF: Non-Extraction Management of Adult Class II Division 1 Malocclusion with Myofunctional Therapy: Clinical Insights from a Case Report

Orthodontic treatment in adult patients with Class II division 1 malocclusion remains a clinical challenge, particularly when aiming to achieve optimal functional and aesthetic outcomes without resorting to tooth extractions.

This case report presents a comprehensive and minimally invasive approach that combines fixed orthodontic mechanics with lip myofunctional training to address both dental and muscular components of the malocclusion.

The report highlights how targeted myofunctional therapy can enhance treatment stability by improving lip competence and muscle balance, which are often underlying contributors to Class II discrepancies.

By integrating biomechanics with functional re-education, the clinician was able to achieve effective correction of overjet and occlusal relationships while preserving dental structures—an increasingly valuable strategy in adult orthodontics.

This case underscores the importance of a multidisciplinary perspective, where orthodontic treatment is not limited to tooth movement alone but also considers the dynamic role of orofacial muscles in long-term stability and relapse prevention.
