PDF: Pediatric Dentigerous Cysts: Clinical and Radiologic Management with Healing Outcomes

Dentigerous cysts represent one of the most frequent odontogenic pathologies in the developing jaws, arising in close association with unerupted or impacted permanent teeth.

Although traditionally more prevalent in later decades of life, a significant subset occurs in pediatric populations, where early identification and effective management are critical to preserving dental development and overall oral health.

In this article, the authors present a detailed observational study of 19 pediatric patients diagnosed with dentigerous cysts, emphasizing diagnostic precision, state-of-the-art radiologic assessment, and clinically tailored therapeutic algorithms.

Through meticulous clinical and cone-beam computed tomography (CBCT) evaluations, the study underscores the importance of correlating radiographic features with surgical planning to optimize outcomes.

Follow-up over a nine-month postoperative period demonstrated complete bone healing across cases, highlighting that early diagnosis, thoughtful treatment selection, and strategic therapeutic approaches can significantly improve long-term prognosis in young patients.

This work offers clinicians and researchers alike a valuable synthesis of current practice patterns and evidence-based recommendations in the management of dentigerous cysts in children.
